The status of Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young has been up in the air since he suffered a stinger in the first preseason game on Aug. 11.
The constant theme around Young has been, “he’s doing everything he’s supposed to do, he hasn’t been cleared for contact and he’s waiting on word from the doctor” before he’s a full go.
Young looks healthy and explosive, but as it stands on Thursday, it doesn’t appear he’s cleared for Week 1 — yet. Will that happen on Friday or Saturday ahead of Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals?
Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio has coached Young since entering the NFL in 2020. Del Rio offered a positive update on Young when he spoke to the media Thursday.
“He’s working hard to be ready to go,” Del Rio said, per John Keim of ESPN. “He came back as healthy as I’ve seen him since his rookie year. It’s great to see. We’re waiting on the blessing from the doctors to give him a green light. When we get there, he’ll go.”
The coaches are ready. Young is certainly ready.
Friday’s injury report will reveal all about Young’s status for Sunday.
