‘It feels great just getting back on the court,’ says Celtics’ Robert Williams III of preparing to return to action

Boston’s defensive anchor is reportedly starting to ramp up for a return to the court.

“You’re always kind of nervous, but that’s kind of why they give me a window, just in case we try something and there’s a setback you’ve got time to deal with it,” said Boston Celtics big man Robert Williams III of his ongoing recovery from a cleanup operation on his knee, per the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach.

At the six-week mark of his recovery window from arthroscopic surgery, the Texas A&M product is within two weeks of the short end of the eight-to-12-week range he was projected to return within and has begun to ramp up activity on the court — including even some dunking. “Yeah, yeah,” smiled Timelord. “I’m dunking.”

“It feels great just getting back on the court, to be honest, man,” said Williams. “I need them just like they need me.”

The Louisiana native can reportedly work out as he pleases, so long as he isn’t doing anything too explosive. “Just increasing the load and everything, seeing how the knee reacts,” he explained.

“Hitting checkmarks there,” Williams added, and after getting outscored in the paint 64-30 by the New York Knicks, it is exactly the sort of thing his teammates and fans want to hear.
