Last Thursday, the New York Giants made an excellent move, trading a 2024 7th-round pick for former Clemson LB/Safety Isaiah Simmons from the Arizona Cardinals.
The former No.8 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Simmons has been solid in his time in the NFL but has failed to live up to his draft status. This was partly due to the way the Cardinals were using the young defender, as they failed to find a consistent home for him in their defense.
Now, with the Giants and in a Wink Martindale run defense, Simmons has an opportunity to thrive in the ideal situation for him. Simmons believes the Giants got a good deal when they traded for him, and we agree.
“I think the Giants got a good deal,” said Simmons. “We’ll see if it was worth a seventh pick or not.”
With the trade, Simmons joins former Clemson teammate Dexter Lawrence, who is arguably the best player on the Giants’ entire roster right now. Simmons was asked if he’s gotten any advice from the All-Pro defensive tackle.
“Really, not so much advice, just a lot of love saying that I’m going to love it, I’m going to love the defense here, love the staff, love all the guys,” the young defender said. “That’s another person I really trust, one of my good friends from way back when. So, I’m just really looking forward to really getting going.”
