Is the San Antonio Spurs’ tanking approach genius or a huge mistake?

Knowing how much Wemby likes to win, are they playing with fire here by not-so-stealth tanking?

Most NBA teams would start working their way back to being a winning ball club after landing a generational talent like San Antonio Spurs rookie wunderkind Victor Wembanyama. But the Spurs seem to have other ideas, structuring their roster for the NBA’s 2023-24 season with something other than winning games in mind.

Will they shift gears towards building a winning roster for their 2024-25 campaign, or will they aim to pick up some more low lottery-level talent in the meantime? More importantly, knowing how much Wemby likes to win, are they playing with fire here by not-so-stealth tanking?

The folks behind the “NBA Swish” YouTube channel recently put together a clip exploring this most unusual approach to a rebuild being taken by the Spurs that falls somewhere north of the Philadelphia 76ers’ “process” approach. But not by much!

Check it out for yourself in the clip embedded above to hear their take on the situation in San Antonio.
