Is the Boston Celtics’ disinterest in Carmelo Anthony really just penny-pinching?

Or might there really be a better option to replace Danilo Gallinari’s minutes internally?

Could the supposed lack of interest we are seeing from the Boston Celtics in signing veteran forward Carmelo Anthony really be a smokescreen so the front office can avoid spending more of ownership’s money heading into a season the team is expected to contend?

Or are the rumbles we are hearing about the Celtics’ desire to see what they have on the roster be earnest in their hopes that the answer to the Gallo ACL injury is already on the team? To be fair, Boston already does have one of the largest payrolls in the NBA, and the difference between what Melo can provide and investing development in a promising young player may be small enough that the latter option makes more sense.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast got together with guest Brian Barret of The Ringer’s “Off the Pike” fame to talk it over, with Evan Valenti and Adam Kaufman weighing in as well.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear their takes.
