Irish have an in with recently offered QB Angeli

Notre Dame is looking like the leader for recently offered New Jersey class of ‘22 quarterback Steve Angeli.

Notre Dame offered Steve Angeli a week ago today and the idea of the New Jersey quarterback joining the Blue and Gold really started to heat up. Brian Dohn of 247Sports caught up with Angeli to get an update on his recruitment and it’s looking pretty good for Notre Dame at the moment.

“Notre Dame was a little bit more meaningful, not just to me, but to my family. I have history there. My great uncle won a national championship there in the early ‘40s. My mom is a huge fan. My brother is a huge fan,” is what Angeli told Dohn. Mom’s pull plenty of weight with their sons, that obviously being a great sign for Brian Kelly and newly anointed offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.

Angeli continues to mention that he knows a few former Irish standouts in quarterback Brandon Wimbush and offensive lineman Quinton Nelson. Both of them are “great family friends, so it obviously meant a lot to my family. It was just a really special moment overall.”

These connects seemingly will play a factor in Angeli’s recruitment and some of the recruiting experts feel the same way. Almost immediately after Angeli received his offer, multiple people in the know put their crystal balls for the Irish to eventually get a commitment from the star quarterback.

Kelly and Rees still need to recruit the young man, as he also mentioned interest in LSU, Penn State, West Virginia, Rutgers and Michigan State. Angeli, the 6-foot-3-inch and 210-pound signal caller is the 14th ranked quarterback in the 2022 class. It seems like Kelly and Rees would love to have him join them in South Bend.
