Iowa defensive back most picked player in PFF mock drafts for Steelers

Steelers fans view defensive backs as the top first-round need the 2024 NFL draft.

One of the best 2024 NFL mock draft simulators out there is the one provided by Pro Football Focus. They track every pick fans make for their teams in these simulations and it really gives a great impression about where fans view a team’s top needs.

For the Pittsburgh Steelers, three of the team’s top picks according to the fans are defensive backs. Top of the list is Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean. DeJean is not only the best defensive back in the Big 10 but also the best return man. His season was cut short by a leg injury but if he’s healthy by the draft, he must be a target for the Steelers.

After DeJean you have Miami safety Kamren Kinchens and Penn State cornerback Kalen King. Kinchens is the top pure safety prospect in the draft but at this point picking him No. 23 overall might be a reach. Same for King who has been passed up by several other talented cornerbacks.

The only player in the top four who isn’t a defensive back is Georgia offensive tackle Amarius Mims who is an excellent run-blocking right tackle and former teammate of Broderick Jones.
