Intrigue builds as Bronny James continues to consider his college decision

.@Lindsay_Schnell of @USATODAYSports is following Bronny James at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland. Where will he go?

It’s a hot topic in college basketball recruiting circles and in the world of Pac-12 basketball: Where will Bronny James play college hoops?

Two Pac-12 programs, Oregon and USC, join Ohio State as frontline contenders for LeBron James’ son. With Bronny in Portland for the Nike Hoops Summit this weekend, USA TODAY Sports reporter Lindsay Schnell gathered comments from Bronny and other interested observers. She also provided background details such as these:

“When James, a four-star prospect, was selected to the McDonald’s All American Game, debate ensued about if he really belonged in one of the premier high school basketball events in the country, or if he was only getting an invite because of nepotism.

“James silenced the doubters with his play, scoring 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from long-distance (all of his scoring came off made 3s). His team lost, 109-106, but James’ play impressed many, including his dad.”

USC has a 2023-2024 roster with lots of upside but also a few holes which need to be filled. Adding Bronny James would give the Trojans another piece they can use to make a run at the Pac-12 title and a very high NCAA Tournament seed. The Trojans can make some transfer portal upgrades, but if Bronny joins the Men of Troy, the need to boost the roster via the portal would not be nearly as acute.
