Inter Miami may be last in the Eastern Conference, but since adding superstar F Lionel Messi, it has made an eye-popping run in the Leagues Cup. Miami won both group-stage matches, scoring 6 goals and allowing 1.

It took down Orlando City 3-1 in the Round of 32 and followed that up with a 4-4 (3-5) win over FC Dallas in penalty kicks in the Round 16. It was down 4-2 entering the last 15 minutes of the game and rallied for the victory.

Charlotte won and drew in the group stage, a trio featuring FC Dallas and Necaxa, scoring 6 goals and allowing 3. It then went on to topple Cruz Azul 0-0 (4-3) in the Round of 32 and beat the Houston Dynamo 2-1 in the Round of 16. Charlotte has struggled this season and sits 12th in the East with 30 goals scored and 40 goals allowed through 23 games.

Inter Miami vs. Charlotte FC picks and predictions

Prediction

Inter Miami 3, Charlotte FC 1

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Inter Miami is the rightful favorite, and the way the odds are trending suggests it is getting heavy action. Miami opened at -190 on the moneyline but has jumped to -225. However, it is unplayable here as it is coming off a full-time draw against a team Charlotte FC also drew in the group stage.

If anything, the +360 draw is worth a look considering how porous the Miami defense has been, but for me it’s a PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 3.5 (+115).

The reason both Miami and Charlotte are outside of playoff contention in the East is their awful defense. Miami has allowed 36 goals in 22 matches, and Charlotte has allowed 40 goals in 23 matches.

Neither had done much to improve that piece of the puzzle. Inter’s last two Leagues Cup matches have had a combined 12 goals. Charlotte went Over this total in 2 of 4 League Cup matches as well.

Messi’s arrival has sparked an offensive explosion that Charlotte likely won’t be able to contain. Similarly, Charlotte has tallied 8 goals in 4 Leagues Cup matches, so it should be able to get on the board as well.

Take OVER 3.5 (+115).
