Instant reaction to Texas A&M basketball’s win 92-54 over Abilene Christian

Texas A&M will go into SEC play on a six-game winning streak after defeating ACU 92-54 at Reed Arena

Texas A&M (11-2) extends its winning streak to six after beating Abilene Christian (8-6) at Reed Arena Saturday afternoon.

The initial half of this contest resembled a fast-paced track meet between two highly athletic teams.

In contrast to their start against HCU last week, Texas A&M showcased improved efficiency, shooting over 60% from the field, with CJ Wilcher scoring 12 points and sinking four three-pointers to top all scorers in the first half. The defense also excelled, forcing 12 turnovers and limiting the opposition to just 11 successful shots, resulting in a 48-29 lead at halftime.

A&M slowed the pace just a little bit in the second half, but the defense stayed relentless. Wade Taylor IV is back in the lineup and picked up his offensive output, scoring double digits in the half and finishing his first double-double. The Maroon & White cruised to a 92-54 victory in which all 12 players scored at least once.

GAME NOTES:

  • Wade Taylor’s 15 points and 10 assists gave him his first career double-double
  • Texas A&M outrebounded ACU 41-21
  • 58.5% FG / 40% 3PT / 73.3% FT

Note: Wade Taylor has passed Vernon Smith for second place in Texas A&M basketball’s all-time scoring list and is now 212 points away from Bernard King as the program’s all-time leading scorer.

Texas A&M will start conference play against the Texas Longhorns at Reed Arena on Jan. 4 at 7:00 p.m. CST. The game can be watched on the SEC Network.
