Bill Belichick added another Alabama linebacker to the roster.

The New England Patriots selected their second linebacker of the draft with Anfernee Jennings at pick No. 87. Belichick picked Josh Uche out of Michigan with the No. 60 pick and now they’re much more solidified at a position that had a dire need for replenishment.

Jennings is a product of Nick Saban — who has a very close relationship with Belichick. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound linebacker is known for setting the edge and playing a cerebral game. He also went and recorded a career-high eight sacks last season, along with a career-high 83 tackles.

He plays assignment-oriented football and uses his length and strength to set a hard edge. Jennings plays a similar game to Dont’a Hightower and he’ll be able to learn from the former Crimson Tide linebacker. Jennings could use some guidance on his pass-rush technique, but his awareness and physical demeanor will give him an opportunity to start right away.

Jennings was a team captain at Alabama and it’s very likely Belichick got the inside scoop on him from an off-field standpoint. He’ll be a rush-stopping linebacker who’ll likely play a leadership role and could develop into a top-tier linebacker.
