After adding linebacker Channing Tindall in the third round, the Miami Dolphins added another player to the position room in the seventh, as they selected Cameron Goode from California.
Miami met with Goode pre-draft and weren’t scared away by the fact that he’s been in college since 2016 due to a redshirt his freshman year and missing all but one game of 2018 due to a lower-body injury.
During his collegiate career, Goode played in 37 games, totaling 172 tackles (36 for a loss), 20.5 sacks, nine passes defended, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
He’s an outside linebacker that can’t necessarily make a positive impact in coverage, but he showed to be a capable pass rusher. He also worked well on special teams.
The Dolphins adding two linebackers in the draft shows that they think they can upgrade at the position, despite bringing back Elandon Roberts, Sam Eguavoen, Duke Riley and Brennan Scarlett in free agency.
Goode’s roster spot is far from guaranteed, but he may be able to steal one from the veterans if he shows he can fill multiple roles on this roster in the near future.
