The Cincinnati Bengals were understandably going to address the linebacker position at some point in the 2020 NFL draft.
That Wyoming’s Logan Wilson fell into their laps at No. 65 to start the third round is a big win.
Wilson is mostly everything the Bengals love. He didn’t play at the biggest program, sure. But he was a ultra-productive three-year player and team captain. The proven stuff is there but the upside because of his traits is impressive.
The Wyoming native checks the boxes at 6’2″ and 241 pounds with 4.63 40-yard-dash speed and a 32-inch vertical jump.
There’s a reason NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein grades Wilson as a player who will be a starter within his first two seasons. And in Cincinnati, that means working next to Germaine Pratt in the right packages while also getting to learn from a veteran like Josh Bynes.
Like Pratt, Wilson might need some time to get his feet wet and eventually grow into a more prominent role. But in the interim, he’s a special-teams glue sort of piece with a plus in the leadership spot.
And at No. 65 with two big issues like quarterback and wideout hit, Wilson was a nice get. Keep in mind he’ll get to go to work within the confines of a revamped Cincinnati defense that boasts free agents like D.J. Reader up front and Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander in the secondary.
