Instant analysis from Dolphins’ impressive upset win over the Ravens in Week 10

It was a surprising victory for Miami.

In a game where the visiting Baltimore Ravens were considerably favored, the Miami Dolphins came in prepared for the battle, as they walked away with a 22-10 victory.

Brian Flores’ game plan was to completely dominate defensively by limiting Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore running backs on the ground. The team, who had come into the game averaging the most rushing yards per game (161.6), totaled just 94 yards on the ground.

The defense also brought extra blitzers from time to time, including safety Jevon Holland who had a sack and a few pressures that forced errant passes. The energy was infectious, as defenders were flying to the ball and dancing pre-snap throughout the game.

When you have a defense attacking the rock, sometimes you get some great turnovers, and that energy carries over to returning them for touchdowns.

Offensively, Miami couldn’t get much going with Jacoby Brissett under center. The Dolphins had put up just six points before Brissett left the game with a knee injury. The situation was actually interesting because he looked like he wanted to come back into the game, but Flores put Tua Tagovailoa in anyway.

With Tagovailoa, the offense was far from perfect, but it felt a little smoother at times. His mobility and quick decision-making made it a bit easier for them to move.

They didn’t seem to have a specific target on offense, they were just finding the open guy. Albert Wilson and Isaiah Ford were the team’s two top targets, combining for eight receptions for a crazy 171 yards. If someone would have predicted those numbers pre-game, they would’ve been laughed out of the room.

Miami was able to withstand the struggles on the offensive line, minimal support in the run game, and some poor coaching decisions at times to come away with a win.

The credit should mostly be going to the defense. That’s three solid games in a row. If they can do this to Buffalo and Baltimore, they should be able to do it to anyone.
