Just prior to halftime of the Texas Longhorns-Kansas State Wildcats matchup on Saturday, senior Derek Kerstetter suffered a horrific injury that ended his season.
It was an injury to his left leg that was called an ankle dislocation by head coach Tom Herman. Kerstetter was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
He returned to the team and led the team in the singing of “Texas Fight.” Herman called it a “tear-jerking moment to say the least.”

The important part is Kerstetter was able to fly home with his teammates following the victory. It was later reported by the university that his injury wasn’t limited to a dislocated ankle. It also involved a fractured fibula. He will have surgery this week.
During the game, tight end Jared Wiley reaggravated the shoulder injury he suffered prior to the Kansas game that was eventually postponed. On Monday, Herman should be able to provide more details on the severity of the injury ahead of the season finale.
