Most importantly, Colorado’s 60-53 First Four victory over Boise State advanced the Buffs to the NCAA Tournament round of 64, but it also gave them their program record 25th win of the season.
While win No. 25 came in ugly fashion, it counted just as much as the other 24. The record-breaking victory comes as another addition to Tad Boyle’s impressive resume with the Buffs. Colorado’s 14th-year head coach has now brought the program more March Madness wins during his tenure (three) than in the 47 years before his arrival (two).
“I’ll tell you what, the Buffaloes have had a hell of a year,” Boyle told Jon Rothstein after the game. “This is a school-record 25 wins. This team has done some special things this year.”
Boyle rode the performances of tenured upperclassmen Tristan da Silva (20 points) and KJ Simpson (19 points, 11 rebounds) in the Wednesday night affair. However, Eddie Lampkin Jr., a rare transfer addition for Boyle, made the difference as he scored the game-sealing putback bucket with about 30 seconds remaining in regulation.
Next, the No. 10 seed Buffs will face the No. 7 seed Florida Gators on Friday afternoon. Tipoff in Indianapolis is set for 2:30 p.m. MT on TBS.
