If Mike Evans misses the Bucs’ Week 1 game, there’s one important name fantasy owners need to know

Is it Scotty Miller SZN?

If fantasy owners don’t know the name Scotty Miller already, here’s your introduction.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians told the media on Wednesday that star wideout Mike Evans has a “soft tissue injury” that kept him out of practice and made him “day to day.”

That’s not great with Sunday’s Week 1 game against the New Orleans Saints looming, and we know that soft tissue injuries can sometimes linger.

That brings us to who you should look at on the waiver wire if Evans is out. And Miller — a sixth-round pick out of Bowling Green in the 2019 draft — has all kinds of upside.

There’s already been chatter about Miller from none other than Tom Brady himself. From last month’s NBC Boston story:

“He’s just another great, consistent, dependable, trustworthy player,” Brady said Friday. “Everything we talk about, he retains, and he takes it to the next practice. He’s displaying things and he’s showing to everybody that he deserves a big role.

“You can trust where he’s going to be, he makes the plays when they come his way. He’s really been fun to work with and fun to see grow from the day that I got here.”

Chemistry is a big deal with the new guy under center. Then there’s his speed. Check this out!

And then this from last season:

Because it’s Week 1, you probably already have a backup receiver lined up in case Evans is out. But if you’ve got a bench spot to spend, I like rolling the dice on Miller over Justin Watson, with all that Brady praise pushing it over the top.
