Howie Roseman on Jalen Hurts taking the Eagles QB job and running with it

Howie Roseman wants Jalen Hurts to take the Eagles quarterback job and run with it

The Eagles have spent the majority of the 2021 offseason saying all the right things about Jalen Hurts despite rumors of drafting or trading for another quarterback.

The draft came and went with the Eagles adding two former Alabama Crimson Tide to the roster, while also quietly acknowledging that Hurts gets the 2021 season to prove himself to the NFL and Philadelphia.

On Thursday, Eagles GM Howie Roseman was a guest on SiriusXM NFL Radio and seemed to at least publicly acknowledged that this is Hurts’ team for the foreseeable future.

“We want to see him grab the job and kinda run with it,” Roseman said.

Roseman shrewdly added Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith, another familiar face in center Landon Dickerson, and dual-threat running back Kenneth Gainwell to the offense during the draft.

For the Eagles general manager, 2021 will be about seeing what Hurts can do with the full support of the organization and a few weapons to boost.

“The more you see a player play, the more you can make decisions on a player,” Roseman said. “We want to be in a situation where we get the most information as possible. Give him the best opportunity, build that offensive line, give him the right weapons, put him in a system that really maximizes his ability, and then go from there.”

If Hurts and the Eagles can take steps offensively, Howie Roseman will now have the assets and cap space to continue adding weapons on both sides of the ball, with a stud quarterback on the cheap.
