How Titans can clinch AFC South or playoff berth in Week 16

Marcus Mariota could help the Titans clinch a playoff spot in Week 16.

When the Tennessee Titans take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in Week 16, they’ll have a chance to punch their ticket to the postseason and quite possibly lock up the AFC South.

According to a release from the NFL, the Titans will win the division and secure a home playoff game with a victory over the Packers and a loss by the Indianapolis Colts, who face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

As far as simply locking up a playoff spot is concerned, the Titans have multiple avenues to achieve that, one of which includes just beating the Packers.

Here’s a look at each scenario that could get the Titans into the playoffs (only one needs to play out):

1. Titans win OR…

2. Miami Dolphins (at Las Vegas Raiders) lose OR…

3. Baltimore Ravens (vs. New York Giants) lose OR…

4. Titans tie and Ravens tie

Just as an interesting side note: If the Titans lose this week, Marcus Mariota could be the reason Tennessee clinches a playoff spot if he leads Las Vegas to a win over Miami.

Per The New York Times, the Titans currently hold a 98 percent chance to make the playoffs and a 64 percent chance to win the division.

After beating the Detroit Lions in Week 15, 46-25, Tennessee has finally gotten over the 9-7 hump that they were stuck on the past four seasons by achieving their first double-digit campaign since 2008.

Should the Titans end up winning the AFC South, it would be the first time they have done so since the 2008 campaign, also.
