A-Day is approaching, and Auburn fans across the globe hope to see signs of improvement from last season’s performance, especially on offense.
When making the case for which Power Four programs will boast the most improved offenses next season, On3’s Andy Staples believes that the Tigers have a great chance of turning things around.
What will be the biggest difference from last season? The addition of [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag]. The five-star signee has turned heads during spring practice, and has the ability to “scare people” this fall.
“I do know that of all the recruits in the class of 2025 Jeremiah Smith, receiver at Ohio State, probably the one people are most excited about. Cam Coleman the receiver coming to Auburn, probably a close second,” Staples said. “Ohio State they’re used to having incredible receivers all the time. Auburn? When is the last time Auburn had a truly dominant receiver? It’s been a long time … so this is a guy that should scare everybody.”
The question that everyone is asking, Auburn fan or not, is “who will throw the ball to him?” Staples mentioned that aspect of Auburn’s offense as well by saying that it should not matter who starts at quarterback, the Tigers’ will look much better in 2024.
“I do think no matter who winds up playing quarterback for Auburn, the Hugh Freeze calling plays of at all, having a dynamic receiver who scares people, and Hugh Freeze being able to directly communicate with the quarterback without signalers is a massive jump waiting to happen,” Staples said.
Auburn’s offense finished No. 10 last season in the SEC by averaging 351 yards per contest. They were dead last in passing last season by throwing for 19 yards less than the team ahead of them (Mississippi State). Adding solid receivers from both high school and the transfer portal will do wonders for Auburn’s offense, who is looking to jump back into elite conversation within the SEC.
