Houston QB Clayton Tune named ideal Day 3 fit for Jets by PFF

Could Clayton Tune be a developmental option for the Jets?

Day three of the NFL draft has become a very key piece of roster building. It’s where you build your depth and potentially find those diamonds in the rough. More and more we see good talent fall out of the first three rounds and remain available on Saturday.

Pro Football Focus recently looked at some day three prospects and tried to link one ideal day three fit to each team. That player for Jets was Houston quarterback Clayton Tune.

The First-Team All-American Conference quarterback was third in the nation in 2022 with 40 passing touchdowns and was invited to the Senior Bowl.

The Jets are still focused on Aaron Rodgers but they’ll also need to think about down the road as well, especially if Rodgers doesn’t play in 2024. That’s where someone like Tune comes in and is part of the reasoning PFF gives behind the fit.

“The Jets might as well take a chance on developing two toolsy quarterbacks at the same time behind Aaron Rodgers, assuming that trade gets done. Tune has the best combination of size, athleticism and arm talent of any quarterback who will be available on Day 3.”
