Terry Rozier came up big down the stretch as the Hornets survived against the Pistons on Thursday, 105-102.
The Hornets burst out of the gate with a big first quarter that featured a 19-4 run that opened up a 28-16 lead. The lead hovered around 10 points and peaked at 16 points midway through the second period before the Pistons began methodically working their way back into the game.
Detroit eventually took the lead late in the third quarter and the two sides then traded leads for the remainder of the game. Neither team found an offensive groove on the night as they shook off the All-Star break rust.
After a 3-pointer from Isaiah Stewart for Detroit gave them a 93-90 lead, Rozier scored 12 of the final 15 points of the game as Charlotte took over late to earn the win. Rozier finished with 17 points, matching Gordon Hayward’s scoring output. PJ Washington had a team-high 20 points and Cody Zeller had 15.
