Hornets pick James Bouknight at No. 11 in 2021 NBA draft

The Charlotte Hornets draft James Bouknight out of UCONN with the No. 11 pick.

The Charlotte Hornets selected UConn guard James Bouknight with the No. 11 pick in the 2021 NBA draft.

Bouknight, who had been projected anywhere in the lottery starting at No. 6 to Oklahoma City, the UConn guard brings a scoring punch to the Hornets backcourt alongside LaMelo Ball.

For the Hornets, Bouknight brings a potential elite three-level scorer alongside LaMelo. Though he struggled from 3-point range last season, shooting only 29.3%, Bouknight shot the lights out in workouts and at the NBA combine, which helped gain momentum and ultimately into the lottery.

With Malik Monk hitting restricted free agency, Bouknight will likely replace his role as the 6th man off the bench as the primary bench scorer.

In 15 games in his sophomore season at UConn, Bouknight averaged 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.

Stay tuned to Lonzo Wire to see who the Hornets select with their three second-round picks.
