Hideo Kojima clarifies that Kojima Productions will stay independent

After sharing a PlayStation Studios banner, the Death Stranding creator had to shake off wild speculation.

It looks like PlayStation Studios probably isn’t acquiring Kojima Productions after all, despite what Hideo Kojima’s vague gesturing on social media may imply.

On Friday, Hideo Kojima posted a mysterious photo of the PlayStation Studios logo. As you might imagine, everyone took this as a hint that Kojima Productions would be the latest acquisition by Sony. Well, anyone that made that assumption was dead wrong, as shortly after, Kojima set the record straight.

“I’m sorry for the misunderstanding,” Kojima said on Twitter. “But Kojima Productions has been and will continue to be an independent studio.”

Boy, who could have guessed that the tweet below could mislead people! Certainly not me, nope.

Regrettably, all we can do is guess why Kojima would share the photo, but he has a history of teasing fans. It probably doesn’t help things that Death Stranding, Kojima Productions’ latest game, was initially published by Sony for the PS4 and PS5. The game has since come to PC, though.

While Kojima Productions will remain independent, Sony has acquired several studios this year. The biggest of which is unquestionably Bungie, the creators of Halo and Destiny. Well-known industry figure Geoff Keighley claims that more big acquisitions are coming, though who knows if that pertains to PlayStation Studios.
