Here’s what Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes had to say about Kadarius Toney after his debut

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was pleased with what he saw from new WR Kadarius Toney in his first action with the team.

The Kansas City Chiefs wasted little time getting new WR Kadarius Toney involved in the offensive game plan after they traded to acquire him from the New York Giants.

Not only did Toney get his first start with the Chiefs in Week 9, but he was also targeted on the first play of the game, making a two-yard reception. He actually recorded more receiving yards on that one play than he did in his two games played with the Giants earlier this season.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes shared his vantage point of what he saw from his new receiver.

“Yeah, I think he did a good job,” Mahomes said of Toney. “Obviously, we couldn’t throw too much at him but whenever he was in the game he was playing hard, he was getting open. We gave him a couple option routes; you saw he got open there, and as he gets more and more accustomed with the offense, we’ll keep adding him here and there and make our offense even better.”

Even when Toney wasn’t the main target in a particular play, he was making his presence felt on the field.

At the end of the day, Toney fits right into the master plan of filling this offense up with as many weapons as possible for Mahomes to utilize at any given moment.

“That’s the good thing about having so many receivers like we do is you don’t know where it’s going to come from and I’ve said that since the beginning,” Mahomes continued. “(When) Travis (Kelce) is having good games and other guys are stepping up and making plays, we’re a hard offense to stop.”

Toney finished the Week 9 game with two receptions on two targets for 12 total yards, but expect that he’ll see an increased workload in the coming weeks.
