Here’s a look at the SEC’s best receivers from each school and how they rank

This 3rd installment in our Gators Wire original series will attempt to rank the likely No. 1 wide receiver for every member school in fall.

No. 13 Cam Johnson – Vanderbilt Commodores (Redshirt sophomore – Brentwood, Tennessee)

A four-star recruit in 2018, Johnson was the No. 43 wideout in the cycle and one of the state’s top-10 players, per the 247Sports Composite.

Playing his high school football about 15 minutes south of Nashville, he elected to stay home and play for Derek Mason’s Commodores. Seeing immediate action as a true freshman, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound target hauled in four passes for 45 yards (11.3 avg) in four games before a left ankle injury sidelined him for the remainder of the campaign.

Back to health in 2019, Johnson played in all 12 of Vanderbilt’s contests, starting nine, and caught 30 passes for 316 yards (10.5 avg) and the first three touchdowns of his collegiate career.

Having four different quarterbacks attempt at least nine passes a year ago, the Commodores struggled mightily throwing the football, collectively recording the same number of touchdown passes and interceptions (10).

With Kalija Lipscomb, the team’s leading receiver last season with 511 yards, now a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, Johnson appears to be next in line to fill the No. 1 wide receiver role and must form quick chemistry with true freshman Ken Seals, the presumptive starter at quarterback this fall.
