Here’s a look at the SEC’s best receivers from each school and how they rank

This 3rd installment in our Gators Wire original series will attempt to rank the likely No. 1 wide receiver for every member school in fall.

No. 2 DeVonta Smith – Alabama Crimson Tide (Senior – Amite, Louisiana)

Despite having two wideouts selected in the top-15 picks in April, the Crimson Tide still possess arguably the best receiving duo in the nation in Smith and junior Jaylen Waddle, a Houston, Texas native.

Forever etching his place in Alabama lore with his game-winning 41-yard touchdown catch against Georgia in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, Smith was the program’s leading receiver with 1,256 yards last season, 93 more than Jeudy and 510 more than Ruggs III.

Bypassing a likely first-round selection in the NFL Draft himself, Smith elected to return to Tuscaloosa to complete his degree and make a run at another national championship.

He ranks fourth in Alabama history with 23 touchdown receptions, sixth in receiving yards with 2,109, and tenth in catches with 118. If he can continue the chemistry he built with redshirt junior quarterback Mac Jones over the final three games of the 2019 campaign, he will continue to move up these charts.
