Here’s a first look at the Final Fantasy 6 remaster

Kefka’s return looms.

Everyone is in the giving mood lately, but perhaps nobody is as gracious as Square Enix for bestowing upon us a sneak peek at the upcoming Final Fantasy 6 remaster.

Like several other series entries getting the remaster treatment before it, the Final Fantasy 6 pixel remaster will give the classic JRPG a fresh coat of graphical paint. It’s  not coming out until February of 2022, but at the very least, we now know one thing: it’s absolutely gorgeous.

Over on Final Fantasy’s  official Twitter account, the team behind the pixel remaster showed off what this version of Final Fantasy 6  looks like in all its Super Nintendo-era goodness. Check it out for yourself below.

Few moments in video games are as iconic as the cold opening to Final Fantasy 6, and the pixel remaster sure has a painterly look that stays true to its original artwork. Here’s to hoping that rumored Chrono Cross  remake looks even half as good as this.

There’s no solid release date for this re-release of Final Fantasy 6  yet, but Square Enix has done a marvelous job with the pixel remasters of Final Fantasy 4  and Final Fantasy 5  that the wait will likely be worth it.
