Has there been a better win for a resume by any team all year than Notre Dame’s over Clemson a week ago?
That could be discussed and debated at length but either way it’s impressive enough for Kirk Herbstreit to still call the Irish the second best team in the nation after 11 weeks of this college football season.
Herbstreit released his rankings on Twitter like he does once each college football Saturday wraps up and the Irish were the only team in his top four this week to have actually played.

Alabama is number one in his as well which is no real surprise as the Tide has looked mighty impressive yet again this fall.
As you can see, Notre Dame checked in ahead of Ohio State. Ultimately the difference between two and three means nothing as the two would play each other on a neutral field if these were to play out, but it’s worth noting nonetheless.
The most interesting part of his rankings to me is that there is BYU at six but no sign of Texas A&M who has only one loss (vs. Alabama) and a win over Florida on it’s resume already.

It’s not a Herbstreit thing as much as it’s just a voter thing in general, but I hate when teams play head-to-head, have the same record, but the loser of that meeting is still ranked behind.
I guess the end of the 1993 college football season is to blame for me daring to think that controversial way.
