Hedgecock homers in 10th to give Arkansas first SEC series win

Chenise Delce struck out two in a row with the bases loaded to finish off the complete game.

The weekend’s series between two top-10 teams in Tuscaloosa could play massively down the stretch in Division I softball.

It lived up to the billing, too.

Arkansas took the series, two games to one, over Alabama in dramatic fashion Monday. Rylin Hedgecock’s solo home run in the 10th inning proved the game-winner in the Razorbacks’ 2-1.

More than Hedgecock, though, Monday was about Chenise Delce. Arkansas’ ace last year had already lost more individual games this year than last, four to three, but her ancillary numbers have been arguably better. The results met up with them against the Crimson Tide.

Delce threw a complete game, all 10 innings, while giving up five hits and walking four. She struck out eight.

But she was in trouble in the 10th. After induced a flyout to start the inning, Delce gave up three straight singles to give the Crimson Tide the bases loaded with just one out. She then struck out two consecutive Alabama batters swinging to end things.

Arkansas is back at Bogle Park on the weekend when the No. 12 Razorbacks host No. 11 Florida for a three-game set.
