Handing Out Grades: Report Card for the Oklahoma Sooners win vs. Nebraska

How did the Sooners position groups perform in their 23-16 win over Nebraska?

Defensive Line: A

The best and deepest unit on the entire team showed why yesterday.  For four quarters they harassed Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez. He came into the game as the most pressured QB in the country. Well, he left still with the title. OU totaled 10 tackles for loss, 5 sacks and 4 quarterback hurries.

Winfrey dominated at the point of attack which lead to the Nebraska defense mustering 95 yards on the ground on 38 attempts. Isaiah Thomas had multiple opportunities to pressure Martinez as did guys like Jalen Redmond, Isaiah Coe, and Josh Ellison.

Linebackers: B

If we include Nik Bonitto here, it probably takes the grade up higher. He was that good. The preseason All-American played spy on Adrian Martinez rushed him from the edge and dropped into coverage. The type of game that validates why draftniks are so high on him. Did we mention he finished with 2 sacks? All in all, the linebackers played a clean game. Coverage is still an issue at times for them but playing downhill is when you get to see guys like Asamoah and DeShaun White at their best.
