Handing Out Grades: Report Card for the Oklahoma Sooners win vs. Nebraska

How did the Sooners position groups perform in their 23-16 win over Nebraska?

Running Backs: A-

Kennedy Brooks and Eric Gray are starting to find their footing. They looked good against FCS Western Carolina University but today they played against Big 10 competition and delivered.

They were sorely needed once Nebraska decided to go to the soft zone and two high safeties look to confuse and slow down the passing attack.

Brooks posted 14 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown against the Cornhuskers. Eric Gray totaled 15 carries for 84 yards. They kept the Sooners’ offense from falling into a complete tailspin while they adjusted to the new look. Their continued emergence means that the Sooners’ offensive line is blocking better and that the offense as a whole will become more complete.

Offensive Line: B+

The Sooners offensive line was a point of discussion all offseason and has been well into this season. They are starting to figure things out piece by piece. Anton Harrison seems like he’s solidified himself as the left tackle. Marquis Hayes is just moving along doing his thing.

The biggest development yesterday was Andrew Raym replacing Robert Congel mid-game at center. Raym immediately helped a massive hole open up for Kennedy Brooks to scoot through for 22 yards. Many in the program believe Raym is one of their five best linemen and offers more upside than Congel. He probably should be starting going forward.

The offensive line had a pretty decent day. They handled stunts and twists well and gave Rattler time to throw when it mattered most. Week by week, they are taking steps in the right direction.
