Grizzlies sign former Missouri forward Jontay Porter to contract

Porter played just one season at Missouri after a pair of torn ACL injuries limited him.

Former Missouri forward Jontay Porter has reportedly signed a multi-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Porter played just one season at Missouri after suffering a torn ACL prior to the start of his sophomore season. As he was rehabbing his knee, he tore the same ACL again last March. Porter has progressed in his recovery and is expected to be ready to participate in training camp next season.

The 6-foot-11 forward was widely considered to be a first-round pick but wasn’t selected in the draft due to his injury history. Porter was the highest-ranked player on the Rookie Wire big board that hadn’t yet found a team following the draft.

A report surfaced in December claiming that Porter had signed with the Portland Trail Blazers but he denied that rumor on Twitter and the deal eventually fell through.

The deal with Porter is a low-risk move for the Grizzlies as they can evaluate him over the summer and into next season and determine if he can play at the NBA level following his injuries.
