Like the rest of us, NBA players are trying to keep themselves occupied in novel ways as the coronavirus pandemic changes the rhythm of our daily lives, and the Boston Celtics are no exception.
Grant Williams has taken to watching classic films as many of us have, breaking out Netflix or Showtime or Hulu to pass the time until things return to something resembling normalcy.
However, the Tennessee product has been getting creative with his classic film perusal approach, taking things to another level by providing fans with a play-by-play of Space Jam in Instagram Live.
His review of the film is complete with analysis on which fictional cartoon players on the Toon Squad are represented by his teammates — as well as who from the film match up with their real-life opponents.

Jaylen Brown is Bugs Bunny according to the Houston native, and the ‘old man’ of the team, Gordon Hayward, is Granny. Marcus Smart is the Tasmanian Devil (who else?), Jayson Tatum is the smooth but classy Lola Bunny, and of course Tremont Waters — a shorter guard at a shorter position — is Tweety Bird.
As for Grant Williams? Daffy Duck, naturally.
While it probably shouldn’t surprise that a cerebral guy like Williams managed to turn Space Jam into an assessment of his teammates, it’s also fun that he pits the Monstars — a massive team compared to the Toons — as the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James.
While we may not have any new basketball games to keep us occupied, there’s always classic basketball films like Space Jam to help fill that gap.
And, at least for this gem, some highly unusual analysis to go with it.
