Grand Canyon powers past Washington 6-2

The Washington Huskies continued to struggle in the desert, falling 6-2 at Grand Canyon University.

After playing in one of the craziest college baseball games of all time, the Washington Huskies couldn’t sustain the offensive output they saw over the weekend, falling 6-2 at the hands of the Grand Canyon Antelopes. Coach Jason Kelly’s team tallied just 2 runs on 9 hits and was done in by one swing of the bat.

In the sixth inning, left fielder Tyler Wilson stepped to the plate and blasted a grand slam off of reliever Sawyer Parkin to give his team a 5-1 lead.

Second baseman Aiva Arquette went 2 for 5 with a run scored, while the Antelopes were able to solve left fielder AJ Guerrero, who went 0 for 4 after looking seemingly unstoppable at the plate over the weekend against the Arizona State Sun Devils.

First baseman Jeter Ybarra continued to swing the bat well for the Huskies, going 2 for 4 with a double, raising his batting average to .304 on the year.

Garrett Ahern earned his third win of the season after working 3 1/3 innings in relief, allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, and 1 earned run, while Jase Evangelista took the loss for the Huskies, his first of the year. Evangelista loaded the bases before Parkin let up the grand slam, finishing with 1 hit, 2 walks, 3 earned runs, and 2 strikeouts to his name over 1 inning of work.

The loss pushes the Huskies to 18-23-1 on the season while the Antelopes improved to 30-18. Washington will travel back to Seattle for a three-game set with the Oregon Ducks, set to begin on Friday night at 7:05.
