Grading the Ravens’ signing of WR Nelson Agholor

We grade the Ravens’ signing of wide receiver Nelson Agholor

The Baltimore Ravens made their first outside free agent move of the 2023 offseason, signing wide receiver Nelson Agholor to a one-year deal. The 30-year-old wideout has spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Las Vegas Raiders, and most recently the New England Patriots.

Agholor is entering his 9th NFL season, putting up totals of 340 catches, 4,246 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns over the course of his eight-year NFL career so far. He’s someone who can still get down the field and be a vertical threat, but has struggled with drops for years and that aspect of his game is unfortunately still very relevant.

Signing Agholor doesn’t move a needle for Baltimore at wide receiver, a position that head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Eric DeCosta said would be looked at very hard this offseason. For one-year and up to $6.25 million with a low cap hit the deal in principle doesn’t look bad, but it’s an underwhelming start to a very sloppy Ravens 2023 offseason.

All in all, the move for Agholor isn’t bad if it was made as a depth signing. However, if it was the sole veteran move the team makes and there isn’t a big trade or signing to follow, it would be disaster for the organization and very familiar path that has rarely worked out in the past.
