Grades for Titans’ draft picks Cole McDonald and Chris Jackson

The Titans added two intriguing prospects in the seventh round on Saturday.

The Tennessee Titans got themselves two intriguing players in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Let’s see what grade they get for the picks.

Cole McDonald, QB

The Titans needed some competition for Logan Woodside, and boy did they get it. Cole McDonald alone will make the preseason games more interesting, partly because he isn’t afraid to take chances through the air.

The Hawaii product posted elite production in his last two years in college, throwing for over 8,000 yards and 69 touchdowns. In 2019, his 4,135 passing yards was third in the FBS behind Joe Burrow and Anthony Gordon.

On top of having a rocket arm, McDonald is an athlete who can make plays with his legs, as evidenced by the over 700 yards he rushed for the past two seasons and his 4.58 40-yard dash time.

Expectations should always be tempered with a seventh-round quarterback, but I love what McDonald brings to the table and he’ll certainly spice up the preseason in Nashville.

Grade: A

Chris Jackson, DB

Jackson was the Titans’ final pick of the 2020 NFL Draft , but don’t sleep on this young man, either.

The Marshall product is listed as a safety, however he told the media he has played cornerback before — and more specifically, slot corner. His speed (4.48 40-yard dash) allows him to hang with faster receivers.

Adding to that, Jackson is someone who can also contribute on special teams, which will no doubt give him a better chance to make the roster.

Tennessee needed to add more depth options for the secondary, and general manager Jon Robinson did so with a fast and versatile defensive back in Jackson.

Again, always temper expectations with seventh-round picks, but based on what the Titans needed, Jackson has the right traits to make this pick a good one.

Grade: B
