Gio Reyna taken off in first half for USMNT vs. Saudi Arabia

The USMNT will be sweating over a talented but injury-prone player

Once again, the U.S. men’s national team may be facing a nervous wait over Gio Reyna’s health.

Reyna came off after 30 minutes of Tuesday’s friendly against Saudi Arabia, the team’s final tune-up before the World Cup.

It was unclear what happened to the winger, but he received the ball and kicked it out of play before signaling that he needed to be take off.

After Paul Arriola came on in Reyna’s place, he immediately went down the tunnel in a worrying sign.

Several members of the media on site in Murcia, Spain reported that U.S. Soccer said the change was not pre-planned.

The Borussia Dortmund attacker missed a large portion of the 2021-22 season with a series of muscle injuries and has been brought along slowly by his club side this season.

Recently, the 19-year-old had begun to enjoy more minutes and had been showing some of the major potential he possesses.

With eight weeks until the World Cup begins, it’s now unclear if one of the USMNT’s most talented players will make the trip to Qatar.
