Gimme Him: A.J. Brown would ignite Patriots’ receiving corps

WR A.J. Brown would be the perfect addition to jump-start the Patriots’ passing attack.

The New England Patriots are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

As the defending NFC champions, there are a lot of Eagles players that would be a good fit on New England’s roster. Philadelphia has a bunch of weapons on both offense and defense. However, one player that I would love to have in New England is wide receiver A. J. Brown. He is this week’s “Gimme Him”.

New England had a chance at drafting Brown in 2019. The Tennessee Titans drafted Brown with the 51st overall pick in the second round, while the Patriots drafted N’Keal Harry in the first round with the 32nd overall pick.

Simply put, this was a draft selection the Patriots would like to have back.

Brown has been extremely consistent throughout the course of his career. He has recorded 1,000 yards in three out of four seasons, with a 1,496-yard campaign last year. The 88 receptions and 11 touchdowns he tallied were also career-highs for him. His production alone would be tremendously valuable for New England.

On top of that, his presence on the field would give the Patriots a bona fide playmaker. New England has not had a top wide receiver since the days of Randy Moss. They have tried to address the wide receiver position over the years. Most recently, they drafted Demario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft.

Last year, they drafted Tyquan Thornton in the second round. The jury is still out on the last three selections. However, when analyzing the grand scope of things at the position, New England has not been able to draft well at receiver.

Brown would be able to open up the Patriots offense and give them that No. 1 target they could count on. Brown has the tremendous combo of being a downfield threat and making things happen after the catch. New England’s receivers do not have those capabilities heading into this season. Brown would give the Patriots the weapon that a franchise quarterback like Mac Jones needs throughout his career.

Of course, this is all wishful thinking. Truth be told, Brown on the Patriots could have been a reality. To say it doesn’t sting a little bit that he’s not would be an understatement.
