Giants trade up, select Chase Young in latest MJD mock draft

In the latest mock draft from Maurice Jones-Drew, the New York Giants actually trade up to select Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young.

Retired running back and current NFL.com analyst, Maurice Jones-Drew, has released a few curious mock drafts since the calendar flipped to 2020, but none are as curious as his most recent version.

In MJD’s latest mock, he has the Cincinnati Bengals passing on Joe Burrow at No. 1 overall, instead snagging Oregon’s Justin Herbert. He then has the Los Angeles Chargers trading up to the No. 2 spot to grab Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.

Stranger yet, MJD then has the New York Giants swapping places with the Detroit Lions and selecting Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young at No. 3 overall.

PROJECTED TRADE WITH LIONS. The Giants trade up to add the best player in the draft to their defensive front.

What in the world?

There’s a lot of moving pieces in MJD’s mock draft, and very few of them seem to make sense. However, to his credit, MJD has broken the mock draft mold and if nothing else, given NFL fans and reporters a unique conversion piece.

Now, with that having been said, it would be stunning to see the Giants and general manager Dave Gettleman trade up when they actually need more draft assets, all while Isaiah Simmons, Derrick Browns, Jeff Okudah and the four top offensive tackles remain on the board.

Would Young be a good get for the Giants? Absolutely, but not in this scenario and not at that cost.
