Giants’ Tommy DeVito: ‘Everything that we want is in front of us’

New York Giants QB Tommy DeVito says everything the team wants — a return to the playoffs — is ahead of them beginning on Monday night.

One of the things that has endeared rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito to his New York Giants teammates is swagger.

DeVito doesn’t lack confidence and his youthful energy is contagious. You can see that both on the field and off of it.

On Tuesday, it was announced that DeVito would remain the team’s starting quarterback despite the return of Tyrod Taylor and his immediate message to the team was that the playoffs are within reach.

“Everything that we want is in front of us but at the same time, we just take it one week at a time and try to focus on this week. If we start looking ahead and we miss one there’s nothing going forward. Let’s say just one at a time, focused on this week,” DeVito told reporters.

At 4-8, the Giants are two games back in the wildcard hunt with five left to play. The team that currently holds the seventh and final spot is New York’s opponent on Monday night — the Green Bay Packers.

With an upset against the Pack and both the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams on the schedule up ahead, the Giants do have at least an outside shot to find their way back to the playoffs.

“It’s an awesome opportunity,” DeVito said. “It’s just like any other game except on a Monday night, right? But yeah, it’s an awesome opportunity to be the only game on and just enjoy and go play football.”

For DeVito, Monday night will be his first-ever start in primetime and he’ll have the opportunity to help propel his team toward a return to the playoffs.
