Giants to sign rookie DB Prince Smith

The New York Giants will sign rookie defensive back Prince Smith, who was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last week.

Mere hours after an agreement with veteran cornerback Ross Cockrell fell through, the New York Giants were once again hard at work, coming to terms with rookie defensive back Prince Smith.

Smith’s agent announced the signing on Twitter.

Smith, a four-year starter at New Hampshire, originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles after going undrafted in April, but was waived last week as the team trimmed their roster to 80.

The 5-foot-10, 192-pound Smith may be considered undersized, but his strength makes up for it. He squat-lifted 495 pounds in 2018, which broke Wildcats’ school record for a defensive back by 20 pounds.

Although Smith is certainly not on the same level as Cockrell and will not factor into the CB2 race, he does add young depth to the Giants’ secondary which needs all the help it can get at the moment.
