Giants take versatile OL, EDGE in Pro Football Network mock draft

Pro Football Network has the Giants taking a versatile offensive lineman and a pass-rusher with their first two picks.

The New York Giants hold the fifth and seventh overall selections in the upcoming NFL draft and there are various opinions regarding how they should use those picks to upgrade their sagging roster.

The folks at Pro Football Network have chimed in with their opinion in their latest mock draft. Here’s who PFN’s Joe Broback has the Giants taking.

5) New York Giants: Kenyon Green, G, Texas A&M

“Kenyon Green‘s versatility adds to his draft value, and the Giants need help on the offensive line. Green played both guard and tackle for the Aggies, showing that he can dominate at either position. That’s something not many other players in the draft can provide, and the Giants won’t wait long to scoop him up.”

A no-brainer. The Giants need both talent and depth on the offensive line and they get that with one fell swoop here. If they can grab a tackle and a center in this draft, it will be considered a total success. The Giants need to start winning in the trenches again and this is a good start.

7) New York Giants (from CHI): David Ojabo, EDGE, Michigan

“Drafting David Ojabo this high carries some risk, but there’s a ton of upside to like in his game. He might not be a plug-and-play guy, but his natural talent is something that teams will covet. An explosive player with great strength on the edge, Ojabo is worth the potential payoff.”

I’m a Michigan guy but I’m going have to say no to Ojabo right here. He’s a boom-or-bust player and the Giants have busted more than boomed with similar picks. The Giants can’t mess this up by speculating.

Ojabo is likely to be a solid NFL player but is a bit of a reach at No. 7 overall. What they need here is a “plug-and-play” guy, perhaps another offensive lineman, or even trade this pick for more capital.
