Giants’ Sterling Shepard activated from PUP, returns to practice

Giants WR Sterling Shepard will be activated from the PUP list on Wednesday and return to practice eight months after tearing his Achilles.

New York Giants veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard (Achilles) will be practicing on Wednesday, which means he has been taken off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

He is expected to be on the active roster for the regular season opener on September 11 vs. the Tennessee Titans.

With Wan’Dale Robinson scheduled to line up in the slot, many expect Shepard to be used as an outside receiver. His return could be a blow to Kenny Golladay, who has been disappointing since signing a $72 million free agent deal last March.

Shepard will also provide a steady set of hands since Kadarius Toney has yet to prove that he can stay health and answer the bell week-in and week-out.

Shepard averaged 7.57 targets per game before injuring his Achilles. He appeared in seven games with six starts.

Shepard’s career has been interrupted several times, however, due to a multitude of injuries and ailments. He has not played a full season since 2018.
