Giants send two 2024 draft picks to the Panthers for EDGE Brian Burns

Giants send two 2024 draft picks to the Panthers for EDGE Brian Burns, shaking up the draft order for both teams

Just when you thought it was safe to start writing a new multi-round mock draft for 2024, the free agency negotiating period began. Monday also featured some trades, and one of them significantly altered the pick selection status for the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers.

On Monday, the Panthers and Giants agreed to a trade involving two-time Pro Bowl EDGE Brian Burns. Carolina dealt Burns to the Giants for two picks in the 2024 NFL draft, sending one back in return.

The deal

The Panthers acquire a 2024 second-round pick, No. 39 overall, a fifth-round pick in 2024 (No. 166) and a 2025 fifth-round pick from New York in exchange for Brian Burns and a 2024 fifth-round pick (No. 141).

New York is also paying Burns a new five-year contract with up to $150 million, with $87.5 million guaranteed at signing, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Adding No. 39 gives the Panthers two of the first seven picks of the second round, along with No. 33. Carolina does not have a first-round pick. Without Burns, they also now have a massive hole at EDGE to fill.
