It seems crazy to even try to figure out where the New York Giants will be selecting in the 2023 NFL draft. However, with Big Blue in rebuild mode and many expecting them to finish in the basement of the NFC East, there’s a decent chance Giants fans will be looking forward to next year’s draft earlier than they had hoped.
This week, in Bleacher Report’s Way-Too-Early 2023 NFL Mock Draft, the Giants end up with a top-10 pick (9th overall) for the 6th time in the last eight years.
With their projected 9th overall pick, the Giants selected Georgia cornerback Kelee Ringo.
The New York Giants’ first draft under new general manager Joe Schoen was big in beefing up the Giants roster. Kayvon Thibodeaux could wind up being the best pass-rusher, while Evan Neal is an elite tackle prospect.
In the next one, they should be looking to add some talent on the back end.
The Giants could be in the market to replace Daniel Jones through the draft, but in this scenario, adding a potential shutdown corner in Kelee Ringo is the move.
The 6’2″, 205-pound corner has everything NFL teams want in that position. Teams are going to love his combination of size and speed. The pick-six to seal the National Championship Game is the kind of playmaking the Giants are lacking in the secondary.
Ringo’s speed allowed him to catch as many deep targets against him as opposing receivers, per PFF.
After parting ways with James Bradberry this offseason, Big Blue would love what he brings to the table across from Adoree’ Jackson.
With the Giants in their current rebuild state, going with a cornerback would be a wise move for Big Blue as it would give them another player at a key position to build around. The Giants already have Dexter Lawrence, Andrew Thomas, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal all coming from their first-round picks over the last few years.
With the rest of the NFC East loaded at the receiver position, the cornerback position is as important as it has ever been in both the immediate and long-term future.
Of course, as stated, the Giants may be in the market for a quarterback but unfortunately in this mock, the run quarterback early in the first round leaves New York with few options as the position after four QBs go in the top eight picks. So instead, the Giants select the first cornerback off the board.
In this particular mock, the Giants are the lone NFC East team selecting in the top 10.
