The New York Giants surely aren’t wasting any time trying to find their new head coach as they have now put in a request to interview current Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale.

Potentially adding Martindale to the list of head coach candidates the Giants want to interview, the Ravens defensive coordinator is enjoying another strong season leading one of the NFL’s best units on that side of the ball.
Martindale got his start in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders in 2004 working as the linebackers coach. He held that role until 2008 when he joined the Denver Broncos coaching staff in the same capacity for the 2009 season.
Wink became the defensive coordinator for the Broncos in 2010 before joining the Ravens in 2012 as the linebackers coach. He held that familiar role through the 2017 season until he became the Ravens defensive coordinator beginning in 2018.
Martindale was a part of the Ravens coaching staff that won Super Bowl XLVII. He hasn’t had any head coaching experience in the NFL, but that doesn’t seem to matter to the Mara family.
The Ravens defense started slow but turned it around in a big way in 2019. They finished the season fourth in yards per game (300.6) and third in points per game (17.6) while being a top-six unit against both the run and the pass.
The Giants have to be granted permission to interview Martindale during the playoffs, but they at least have made their request for another potential candidate.
