Giants’ receiving corps ranked 21st by PFF

There is some promise in the Giants receiving corps.

The New York Giants went through the offseason making several additions to the roster but decided against doing so to the wide receiver room.

Though the room is lacking a true alpha since the departure of Odell Beckham Jr., there is some promise with the unit. A blend of youth and veteran talent gives quarterback Daniel Jones a solid group to work with.

Pro Football Focus ranked the Giants receiving corps at No. 21 in the NFL.

Giants fans were vehemently opposed to taking a wide receiver early in the 2020 NFL Draft, but the fact remains that they’ve been a team with good complementary pieces in the passing game and no true No. 1 option ever since the departure of Odell Beckham Jr. Golden Tate and Sterling Shepard are solid slot and secondary options in the short and intermediate range, and Darius Slayton showed promise as a downfield threat in his rookie season. Evan Engram and Saquon Barkley both provide plus athleticism and receiving ability for their positions. That’s a good supporting cast; New York is just missing the star.

The Giants have a trio in Golden Tate, Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton at the top of the wide receiver depth chart. Both Tate and Shepard are slot specialists with reliable hands.

Slayton is the intriguing one as he enters his second season. He showed a lot of promise during his rookie campaign working on the boundary with Jones under center.

The two seemed to have a connection on deep balls and with more time working together, that could become more of a trend in 2020.

The Giants still need to find their alpha dog wide receiver, but there is some promise in the room.
