Giants QB Daniel Jones officially cleared for contact

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has reportedly been cleared for contact after missing the previous three games with a neck injury.

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has missed the past three games with a neck injury but now appears in line to return.

Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports that Jones was officially cleared for contact on Sunday prior to a Week 8 game against the New York Jets.

The news on Jones could not come soon enough for the Giants, who lost quarterback Tyrod Taylor to what appeared to be a severe rib cage injury. He remains hospitalized as of Monday morning.

Jones suffered the injury in Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins and had been dealing with symptoms for weeks. One of the main issues was left shoulder/arm weakness, but the strength slowly returned over time.

Head coach Brian Daboll indicated last week that Jones was “getting close” to a return but also wouldn’t guarantee he’d play again this season.

Jones had been taking some scout team reps and will now resume his role with the first team at practice on Wednesday.

Even with Jones cleared to play, the Giants will likely need to sign another quarterback to replace Taylor and fill out their roster.
