The New York Giants placed outside linebacker Oshane Ximines on injured reserve with a shoulder injury on Friday.
While Ximines was initially ruled out this week against the Dallas Cowboys, the Giants ultimately made the decision to move him to IR, which means he will be on the shelf for at least the next three weeks.
While Ximines had only five tackles with no sacks in his sophomore campaign, he recorded five pressures and four quarterback hits in a little over three games.
Ximines saw just 19 snaps against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday before exiting with the shoulder issue.
In his second season as a pro, Ximines has seen less playing time than anticipated despite making three starts.
With Ximines out, this should open up the door for veteran edge rusher Markus Golden, whose role has been heavily reduced despite putting up 10 sacks a season ago.
The Giants also saw linebacker David Mayo (knee), who is on injured reserve, return to practice on Friday. He could be a potential option to replace Ximines on the 53-man roster.
